California Brown Pelican Squadron
This California Brown Pelican squadron (Pelecanus occidentalis) was imaged in flight over the coast of Northern California. Their breeding range is from the Channel Islands south to central Mexico, but their non-breeding range extends all the way north to Vancouver, Canada. Brown pelicans can live up to 40 years old, their throat pouch can hold over 2 gallons of water and they have a wingspan of over 6.5 ft!
